ServiceNow with syslog

Sometimes we need to setup monitoring tools to our SerivceNow instances… and ServiceNow have got that functionality.

Server Syslog should listen on 514 port by the UDP protocol. More info about syslog you can find here Syslog – Wikipedia.

Example Code from Documentation:

var sl = new Syslog(‘127.0.0.1’, ‘mid.server.Ubuntu1’, 16);
sl.log(‘This is a sample log message # TEST’, 6);

If you want check how it works you can use net cat:

Command looks like: nc -u -vv -l 514

Parameters explain:
-u – UDP protocol
-vv – verbose information
-l – listening
